BBM – A Stranger Messenger Among Cambodian People

BlackBerry was once called “The Kind of Smartphone” for decades, but everything has changed and its position is now under control of Apple iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Currently, with a small market share (~1%), BlackBerry is trying its best to bring back what is theirs but it seem likes everything is not going smoothly. There are so many obstacles along its way. There are so many reasons and a lot of analysis about its fall-down, but no one knew it better than BlackBerry itself.

In early 2013, BlackBerry announced that they will make BBM available across platforms, and it quickly adapted million people around the world. But look back to Cambodia market, BlackBerry and BBM is still very new and strange among Cambodian users.

Almost 100% of Cambodian users are not aware of BlackBerry or BBM. I admit that a lot of Cambodian users are using WhatsApp, Viber, Lines, Skype or even WebChat, but not many people are using BBM.

In reality, BBM is one of messenger applications that you can do the same to what other messenger applications does. With BBM, you can send messages, voice messages, or even video conversation with high-clear voice and video quality. BBM designed to be simple, effective and easy to use.

One most important point of BBM, it won’t burn up your smartphone/tablet’s RAM. Not like what Viber, Lines or Skype does.

Now, with new updated version, BlackBerry includes BBM Enterprise, BBM Meeting to its BBM and received positive feedback from customers since BlackBerry is the “leader in enterprise mobile solution”.

You can download BBM from BlackBerry by click on this link and select BBM version for your platform. To download BBM please click here.

As a country, Cambodia also has its own notes called “RIEL”. Khmer riel is unique and can only be used in Cambodia’s territory only. Khmer riel range from 100 riel to 500,000 riels, but 500, 000 notes rarely be seen and use.

The exchange from Khmer riel to US dollar is quite stable for this year. One US dollar you can exchange with around 4,000 riel. In everyday business or activities, people we just calculate one US dollar equal to 4,000 riel only.

US Dollars: The currency or note is very popular in Cambodia and it is wisely use any places, any shop or any markets. It sometime even more popular than Khmer riel. You might need to bring some small note ($1, $5, $10) might more sufficient for you during your time in Cambodia.

Other currencies such as Singapore dollars, Australia dollar… can also be used in some cases.

However, Khmer riel is still the most popular and can be used at anywhere, any places.

Final suggestion: If in case you don’t have enough time to exchange your money, US dollar is the most and wisely accept that you can bring with you. Small notes will be best option.

Maturity of Tablet’s Era is About to Come

April 3rd, 2010 Apple introduced its first generation iPad with 9.7 inches and flawless design.

First day it was publicly introduced, the world was collapse and turns everyone’s interest from personal computers which was ruled by “laptop” to new device that light, fast, mobile and stylish, iPad instead.

Just moths after iPad introduction, many companies including HP, Samsung, Sony and HTC introduced their tablet devices that powered by Android, an operating system which buggy and memory-burning at that time. But unfortunately, not so many of them were succeed, classic example, HTC terminated their first Android tablet just months after introduced.

Nowadays, it is seem that tablet’s era is getting into a position so called “Mature” of its growing journey. In result, iPad’s sales or Samsung tablets didn’t show much grow as it used to be last year. The competition is just getting tougher while the products is not much different in terms of design and features from generation to generation.

Tablet should not replace PCs because it is made for mobility, stylish and on-the-go tasks, but not for super heavy task or even complex spreadsheet calculation.

Why Hi-Tech Device Is Burning Our Money

The world is changing too fast. From day to day, technology is showing its capability in changing our living style and behavior. Hi-Tech devices helping us to see the world in different way, helps to communicate with each other with ease and helping us do business with just a few taps.

But beside of all those pros, hi-tech devices also the “money burner”. Why? Here are some reasons:

  1. Hi-tech – Hi-price: New hi-tech devices always comes with high price. For example, iPhone 6 that Apple had just introduced, many phone shops in Cambodia sold it with very high price, but just after a few months, the price dropped down to almost standard. This marketing method can help those shop owners earn huge amount of money with just a second.
  2. Short life cycle: Once a new product introduce to the market, many people are trying to get one for themselves, but they almost forgot that every product has its own life cycle, and those cycle is just one year. Once the next generation product introduce, the old generation will drop the price and they will lose huge amount of money if they’re willing to change for the new generation product. For example, Sony Mobile committed that they will introduce new product in every 6 months. That’s the best way for those companies to earn money and also the best way for you to burn your money as well.
  3. Add-on features: Newer generation products will be improve in terms of quality and features, but those little added features will burn huge amount of your money while the current one that you’re owning is enough to help you do your business very well. Add-on features are just like a gasoline to boost the speed of a vehicle.
  4. Accessories: To increase the revenue of the company, some hi-tech companies develop separate accessories, so called “genuine accessories”. This is the way to earn more money. To get the maximum productivity of device, you need to pay more on some important accessories, for example, if you want to get the full strength of nVidia Shield Tablet, you need to pay $60 for WiFi Controller and $50 for Cover. There are a lot of companies that doing their business in this way such as Apple, Dell, Microsoft… etc.

Once new product introduce, people are willing to get one without thinking of Price, Cost, Life cycle and Productivity.

64 bit — Do We Really Need It?

Apple is the only company who always make us surprise by their new innovation and creative ideas. Recently, they released an unthinkable mobile CPU with the brand new architecture, 64bit architecture.

Speaking about 64bit CPU architecture, we already knew about this years ago with Intel’s CPUs, but bringing 64bit CPU into level of mobile devices is still the things that no one thought about.

This is a good move for Apple, but the question is, do we really need that 64bit CPU in our mobile device?

Currently, not so many people are really care about this architecture because most of the applications that we’re using either on our laptop or desktop were design to work both in 32 and 64bit. We rarely to see any different in terms of speed, calculation and algorithm if we are just entry-users.

In fact, 32bit architecture is still enough for entry users like you, and me while we are mainly use for simple works like emails, word processing…

At the mean time, it is just not 64bit era on mobile yet and 32bit is just enough for you complete and finish your works without any doubt.

Why iPad Is Good for Business

There are so many tablets out there in the market but most of then are targeted for multimedia such as music, videos and games. Some of those are targeted for budget saving, some for teenagers, some for schools, some for just phone and social media connection. I barely hard to find a perfect tablet for my business then. Very wide range of tablets to choose which blowing up my mind.
But come to an end, I decided to get an iPad foe my business and personal uses. Why? Because there is only the iPad that really support my exchange email without any doubt, its OS is secure and it is run smoothly if compare to other Android tablets out there in the market.
But there is one thing that keeping me from buying it at this time because the brand new iPad will be released to the market very soon. I don’t like the big-heavy of iPad 4 right now and I also don’t like the weak-small of the iPad mini anyway.
So let’s wait a little while. But no matter what it will be, iPad is the perfect tablet for business in anyways.
